The TTWS Best Photos of 2016 + A Big Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas!

Wherever you are in the world, I hope your Christmas is absolutely wonderful. I am spending my Christmas working back to back night shifts, and though that might sound horrible, in fact, it’s actually not a terrible way to celebrate – I would love to deliver a Christmas baby!

2016 has been a good year in travel for me, but 2017 is looking like it will be even better!

So, to celebrate closing the door on 2016, I am going to share 25 of my absolute favourite travel pictures from this year. Enjoy, and please link me to your own fave travel pics from 2016 – I would love to see them!

1. Adelaide River, Northern Territory

3. El Nido, Philippines

Darwin may be stupidly humid in the wet season, but by god do the storms look amazing as they roll in.

13. Edith Falls, Northern Territory

Located near Katherine, these falls are a stunning part of Nitmiluk National Park.

These shamrock green rice fields might not be as big as the ones in Ubud, but that just makes me like them all the more.

The only way to get a decent shot of this water temple was to cut out the left side where constructions were underway!

If you are a bunny lover, add Okunoshima to your bucket list.

    1. Thank you so much! It is always lovely to hear that people like my pictures 🙂 Indonesia is such a beautiful country! I hope you get to see it for yourself in the near future!

    1. Thank you so much! I always look forward to your lovely and thoughtful comments 🙂 I hope one day we do cross paths! I look forward to bringing you along on my adventures in 2017!

  2. I love seeing the places you have been too, mainly because they are so different from mine. I have only left America once and am more of a woods over ocean kind of gal. That being said, I love all of your photographs of clear green waters, they don’t seem real because they are unlike anything I have ever experienced (I spent my childhood going to Lake Erie). All of your photos seem like they are from worlds away, worlds I am longing to travel to. Thank you for always sharing. At the beginning of this post, you asked for links to our travels and so here is one of mine https://kaitlynjosmith.wordpress.com/2016/06/12/we-were-free/ I hope you enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed your blog this year. Merry Christmas!

    1. Thanks so much for the link – I will check it out now! Thanks for keeping up with my travels this year, I hope you will continue to travel with me in 2017 🙂

  3. Exceptional photography! Can’t wait to see WITW you’ll pop up next –
Merry Christmas and keep on truckin’…
Oh BTW, swimming in water (salt or fresh) in Australia needs to come off your “to-do” list. Your salties beat my gators any day!
    Chris ^.^

    1. Hahaha my Salties are beastly creatures! As for WITW I’ll be next – stay tuned, 2017 is gonna be full of more adventures than you can poke a stick at!

  4. From all of the great photos I have seen it must have been hard to narrow them down to just these. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Hope you get that Christmas Baby.

    1. It really was – I could have chosen a few hundred! The culling process was fun though, was a nice chance to go through all my captures 🙂

As for the Christmas baby – I got one on the 24th but not the 25th! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you too 🙂

  5. You finally got down to your rabbit photo. As soon as you said you were listing your best photo of the year I immediately thought of the one of you sat amongst the rabbits. It is a bit magical-looking, a bit Alice in Wonderland, and with your arms pulled in you’re like a human pyramid with bunnies clambering up you…if you know what I mean.

You always take good photos with animals. I hope you have a good Christmas and I wish you all the best for your travelling in 2017.

    1. I never thought of Alice in Wonderland… but I love that you did! Such a cool thing to remind someone of! Thanks so much for following all my adventures this year, I cannot wait to share even more with you in 2017!

  6. And a very Happy Christmas to you also dear Ellen, may your ventures in 2017 be just as memorable and enjoyable, I read you are going back to study – take time to sleep hey ?? Love Vicki

      1. Ellen! As I have shared enough of my feminine secrets with you and your job kinda relates to women’s health. Would you recommend pads or tampons?

  7. Once again I’ve spent a peaceful moment with you reading your words and enjoying all my favourite photos. I hope you and yours have the happiest of holidays. Cheers and happy travels in 2017!

  8. Happy Christmas to you too…hope you get your baby! 😄 Decided to travel on Christmas Day this year to Gisborne and the only place open for food in the evening was McDonald’s! For Christmas dinner…it was really nice for a change. 😊

    1. Hahaha very… festive? I ate all of the Christmas foods and now have even more of a podgy belly… so well worth it though. Happy (belated) Christmas to you too!

  9. These are just stunning photos. Would you be willing to let me use one to accompany a poem on my blog? Of course I would credit you and link back to your blog. This is just a thought. Let me know if you are interested. Happy New Year. I look forward to following your travels this year.

  10. Ellen,
My apologies, I know it’s slightly off topic but I was thinking of starting up a travel magazine featuring guest authors. Obviously it is in its infancy, but you’re someone I respect and admire when it comes to travel blogging and to have you as a contributor would be an honour. This is just a query into interest, there’s still a lot to be done.

Best of luck with your adventures
