After a few lovely days spent at Kandolhu Resort in the North Ari Atoll, it was time to head a little farther north to the Baa Atoll.

I had visited the Baa Atoll on my previous trip to the Maldives and been absolutely amazed by the marine life, so I really could not wait to return!

I was bound for one of the best resorts in all of the Maldives – Soneva Fushi. I had worked with the Soneva brand the previous year in Thailand, and it was such a brilliant experience that I had no doubts that my stay at Soneva Fushi would truly be one to remember.

To get from Kandolhu to Soneva Fushi required two seaplane journeys, and it ended up being pretty perfect weather for a day spent in the sky.

I have taken a lot of photos from Maldivian seaplanes, but the ones I took on this particular day are hands down my favourites! When the sun starts shining it really brings out the aqua and turquoise shades in the water.

All too soon it was time to land and deplane!

Side note – is it still called landing if you don’t actually do it on land?

Literally the second you step onto the floating “airport” the luxury experience begins.

A handful of perfectly white boats quickly zoom up to the floating pontoon, ready to transport you to Kunfunadhoo Island – the home of Soneva Fushi.

On these boats were each guests allocated ‘Fridays’.

Your Mr or Mrs Friday is your port of call for anything and everything you need whilst staying at the resort. They will book activities for you, make special requests happen and are basically there to make sure that your stay at Soneva Fushi is as perfect, stress-free and seamless as possible.

I hadn’t even arrived on the island yet, but I could already feel myself falling in love with the place!

I mean, just look at these smiling faces – such big grins say it all!

Upon arrival we found out that our room wasn’t quite ready yet, so while we waited we were treated to a wonderful breakfast on the beach.

I wish I had photos of this breakfast, but I gotta be honest, it was so delicious that I only even thought about photographing it after I had already demolished it!

Whoops.

But at least by this point we were able to move into our villa and I could get started taking photos!

I was lucky enough to score a stay in one of the Soneva Fushi Family Villa Suites with a pool – which is one of the more mid-range villas on the island.

So without further ado, let me take you on a tour of a gorgeous (not so little) villa that would be perfection for anyone dreaming of a jungle island hideaway.

Every little detail in these villas is designed to fit the whole ‘Robinson Crusoe’ kinda aesthetic, and I gotta be honest, they totally hit the nail on the head!

Featuring the fluffiest king-size bed ever, not only is this bed a dream to sleep in, the frame is so high off the ground that even getting into it makes you feel like you are climbing into a treehouse!

Even cooler – the bed frame is made from local coconuts – amazing!

Sonu and Eva – the founders of Soneva – have created a small group of resorts that don’t just reek of barefoot luxury, but they do it whilst putting a huge emphasis on social and environmental consciousness.

Just about everything at Soneva Fushi is recycled or repurposed, and both Soneva Kiri and Soneva Fushi are home to ‘eco centro’ centres, which are dedicated areas for growing sustainable produce, finding new uses for discarded items and just generally doing what most other resorts seem unwilling to do – providing a luxury service that is sustainable, environmentally friendly and undeniably innovative.

Whilst most pieces of furniture in these villas have a very rustic and purposefully unfinished feel about them, the linen furnishings remain bright, colourful and full of life.

This villa is designed to house couples or small families, and in addition to the large king-size bed in the master bedroom, also features a smaller single bedroom.

From the main lounge area, you find yourself just a doorway away from some pretty stunning beach access.

White sand, aquamarine water, a private hammock a private plunge pool (not pictured) – does it really get much better than this?

Our villa was in a bloody great location too – just a short walk from the overwater Bar(a) Bara Bar.

Try saying that one five times fast!

After checking out our little slice of private beach (and having a quick dip in the pool whilst accompanied by the champagne – ahem) it was time to check out the last little chunk of the villa.

Now, when I say outdoor – I mean it!

Featuring a killer sound system, a deeper than deep bathtub and two showers – this is the ultimate in jungle bathrooms!

Oh and man, that outdoor shower, to this day it is still in my dreams!

I hadn’t been at Soneva long, but it was already shaping up to be a truly incredible visit.
