Once it was time to leave the wonderful Point Yamu by COMO in Phuket, I had to make my way back to Bangkok for a short nights rest before departing on an internationally bound flight the following day. My flight from Phuket to Bangkok with Thai Airways was overbooked and a total nightmare.

Picture this: an enormous and overbooked flight full of people trying to board a plane in complete darkness because the lights weren’t working. It was an absolute disaster. Children were screaming, nobody knew where there seats were and we ended up being massively delayed as a result. So once we landed, all I wanted to do was curl up in bed and go to sleep.

I had been well taken care of at other COMO Hotels (big thanks to Maalifushi and Point Yamu) so it just made perfect sense to spend one more night with this amazing hotel group at Metropolitan by COMO in the heart of Bangkok.

After a 35 minute journey from Suvarnabhumi Airport I thought I would be completely ready to just throw myself into bed and get as much sleep as possible before my 5am wake up call the next morning; however, ’twas not the case. My tummy ended up being more demanding than the sleep centre of my brain and without too much of an internal debate, room service was soon ordered.

While I waited for my food to arrive, I took the time to check out my gorgeous hotel room and all of its polished and understated features.

There it was, seemingly a constant in my life, a bowl of fresh fruit. I have travelled through a huge variety of Asian countries this year and something I have found to be always present is a fruit bowl in every hotel or resort. Believe me, I am not complaining, finding many tropical fruits (especially mangosteen) outside of South East Asia is borderline impossible, so I will demolish every single piece of fruit that comes my way.

I loved the black and neutral tones of the room, if ‘metropolitan’ is the theme of the hotel – the colour scheme is working wonders for the place.

The personalised welcome message was a lovely touch. It is something so small, but it really does make something as anonymous as a hotel room feel really warm and welcoming.

I love a good little pods coffee machine! There is one at the hospital where I work (when I am not off jetsetting like the luckiest gal in the world) and I am fairly sure 50% of its use is by me and me alone. Having a little machine like this in a hotel room is a wonderful alternative to the usual stash of instant coffee sachets.

The cleanliness and upkeeping of the hotel was absolutely faultless, everything was totally spotless and looked as if it were brand new, without feeling empty or overly sterile.

In terms of service, the hotel benefits from that warm Thai hospitality that I have become so familiar with. The staff are always smiling, forever kind and go out of their way to make your stay more comfortable.

After not too long my room service arrived, and it was damn delicious. I got a Thai fried rice with a side of fries and a nice cold Heineken. Western influences and a Thai dish – gotta love it. The rice was good but the fries were absolutely exceptional – you can tell that nobody just pulled them out of a packet and threw them in a fryer.

The funniest part of the meal though, was the presence of Berenberg produce.

For those of you who aren’t familiar, Berenberg produce is absolutely delicious and something I love… possibly because Berenberg Farm is located like a 30 minute drive from my childhood home!

I remember going to this farm with my dad to pick strawberries when I was just a little kid. It’s bloody ridiculous and downright hilarious that I travel all the way to Thailand only to be served produce from my home town!

After I had finished inhaling my late night dinner, I settled into the comfiest bed ever for a solid 3.5 hours of sleep. Bleugh. Getting up at like 5am for a flight is absolutely horrible, but luckily the hotel gave me a lovely wake-up call which was quickly followed by breakfast in bed. Early mornings are horrendous, but if its unavoidable, breakfast in bed definitely makes the early rise easier to deal with.

Metropolitan by COMO is an absolutely wonderful Bangkok hotel, I will definitely be back.
