I truly did have a wonderful time in Venice, I explored the city on foot, got far more photos than necessary, ate amazing food and really outdid myself on the drinking front.
Lesson learnt: Despite my drinking prowess back in Australia, I should never attempt to keep up with a Russian because there is no way I will be able to. When did I learn this lesson? I think that moment that I slipped off a step and pretty much fell into one of the canals was probably a pretty good indicator. But it certainly made for a fun few nights.
There isn’t much to say about Venice, other than that after I had spent a week in Rome and really was not the biggest fan of it, I wasn’t even excited to get to Venice, and then it turned out to be one of the most incredible places I have ever been to.
Have you been to the sinking city? I would love to hear about other people’s experiences in Venice!

I truly enjoyed Venice… and have a lot of the same photos. I didn’t get drunk and fall in a canal, however. 🙂 I did manage to get lost, which is a lot of fun in the city. –Curt
I absolutely adore Venice, and can’t wait until I can plan another trip there. Love your pictures. It’s absolutely amazing. One of these days I will dust off my pics and post them. It seems that, in the Summer and Fall, the local hotels don’t turn on the heat or hot water till after 7AM, and shut them off at 7PM. Just one of the crazy, quirky things about the place. Staying on the Lido is always a less expensive way to go as well. The street food is good, but you have to watch out near the square that you don’t get ripped off at the restaurants. There used to be beautiful linens on Burrano island. What’s great is that you can walk forever, get lost and still have a great time.
The photos you’ve taken are absolutely gorgeous!! I absolutely loved Venice and I think it’s one of the most beautiful places I’ve visited. It was like one big giant maze though which was fun but a little confusing after some wine! I wrote a blog series about different places in Italy and I’d love it if you could take a look at my blog:)

Wow I’m really smitten by your photography! The vintage vibe of the Venice Hostel, the deep red hue of the bar drinks, and the concrete bearings of the alley. Spectacular to say the least. I’ve never been but would love to visit someday! What restaurants do you recommend? 🙂 – Lena

I was there about a month ago for my third visit! It’s without doubt my favourite city in the world (that I’ve seen so far, at least)!
Wasn’t blown away by Rome either Venice is the prettiest place going!

About Rome I disagree totally – the reality is that Italians are not simple people and many of them will take all possible advantage of tourists. My worst meal ever in my life was in Venice, the first time I came to Venice – the city went on strike and it was a nightmare (haha, a week before they burned a whole quarter of rome when I was in this quarter). My further trips to both of these cities thanks God were luckier, but in Italy much more than in other places it is about the locals, who are able to guide you and show you great places and not the touristic part
It is on my wish list. Closest I have been was Verona.
We’re going to Italy in November, so I thought I would check out some of your posts on Italy 🙂 I decided against Rome because it just did not appeal to me, and against Venice because of my fear of the aqua alta flooding in the more wintery months! It does look beautiful though. I hope I can include Venice on our next itinerary!

When I was in Venice I was just using an iPhone 4S! I have upgraded to a real camera now but it definitely served me well 🙂 How are your SA travels going? I am extremely keen to get to Central and South America and will hopefully do so next year!
