One of the best things about travelling to Belfast in Ireland, is the consequent close proximity to one of the most incredible UNESCO World Heritage Sites, The Giant’s Causeway.
Apparently there is a perfectly rational explanation for why the basalt rocks formed in hexagonal columns (volcanic activity anyone?) but the Irish myths and legends are far more interesting.
As legend goes, an Irish giant named Finn MacCool was challenged to a fight by a giant from Scotland. In order to reach each other to have said fight, Finn built the Causeway as a passage across the North Channel.
The Causeway itself is truly stunning, and so much fun to climb and clamber around on, and the surrounding mountains provide a scenic walk to the Causeway that make walking a better option than taking the shuttle.

Love the Giants Causeway – one of my most favourite places. Unfortunately I have yet to visit when the sun is shining!!

Antrim is lovely. My son-in-law is from there and he married my daughter in Carrickfergus Castle. Unfortunately he whisked her and my grandson away to Edinburgh to take up work as a paramedic. I’ve forgiven him though, as Scotland is also a beautiful place for us to visit.
Scotland is one of my favourite countries ever! I visited again recently and got to explore the beautiful Isle of Mull 😊
